KOAIL

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 September 2026

This policy explains what information Koail (www.koail.com) collects when you use our website and apps, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Koail you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

  • Account details: when you create an account we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from that service, as allowed by your settings there. We never receive your password for those services.
  • Listening activity: what you play, how long you listen, where you stopped (so you can resume), likes, playlists and downloads.
  • Subscription and payment information: your plan, payment dates and amounts, and a reference from our payment partners. Card and wallet payments are handled by PayFast; mobile-bill payments are handled by your mobile operator. We do not see or store your full card number, PIN or wallet password.
  • Device and usage information: browser type, device type, approximate location (country/city from your IP address), pages visited and errors, to keep the service working and secure.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files that keep you signed in, remember your settings and count plays fairly. Advertising partners also use cookies (see section 4).

2. How we use information

  • To provide streaming, downloads, playlists, resume playback and recommendations
  • To manage your account and subscription, and to send receipts and renewal reminders
  • If you allow them: notifications on your device (new releases from artists you follow, a reminder to finish something) and occasional emails with picks and offers when you haven't listened for a while. Switch each off in Your account → Notifications; every email has an Unsubscribe link
  • To show advertising to Free and Freemium listeners
  • To understand what content is popular and improve the service (using totals, not personal profiles)
  • To prevent fraud and abuse and to meet legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Sharing

We share information only with service providers who help us run Koail, and only as much as they need:

  • Hosting and storage (e.g. Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare)
  • Sign-in providers you choose (Google, Facebook, Apple)
  • Payment partners (PayFast, mobile operators) to process your subscription
  • Email delivery (to send account emails and receipts)
  • Advertising partners (see below)
  • Analytics partners, only if you allow analytics cookies: Google Analytics and Google Firebase (Google), and Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft), which records how pages are used (clicks, scrolling) to help us improve the design

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our users and service.

4. Advertising

Free and Freemium listeners see and hear ads. We use Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

Premium subscribers do not see or hear ads.

Cookies

When you first visit, we ask which cookies you allow. You can change your choice any time with "Cookies" at the bottom of every page.

  • Necessary (always on): keep you signed in and secure, run the player, count plays fairly, and remember your cookie choice.
  • Analytics (only if you allow): Google Analytics, Google Firebase and Microsoft Clarity measure which pages and features are used.
  • Advertising (only if you allow): lets Google show ads based on your interests. Without it, ads aren't personalised.

Koail's own visit statistics (always on, no cookie needed): the pages you open, what you play and for how long, your type of device, operating system and browser, the site that sent you, and your country and city. Country and city are worked out from your IP address, which is not stored. If you allow analytics cookies we also keep a random ID in your browser so repeat visits can be counted; otherwise visits are counted without one. These statistics are only shown to the Koail team as totals.

We keep a record of each choice (date, what you allowed, the policy version, and a one-way code made from your IP address instead of the address itself) to show we asked for your consent. We ask again about every six months or when this policy changes.

5. How long we keep information

We keep account information while your account is open. Listening statistics are kept in combined form. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it by law.

6. Your choices and rights

  • View and update your profile in your account settings
  • Download a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us
  • Delete your account at any time (this also removes your playlists and history)
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in each email, and turn notifications off in Your account → Notifications
  • Change your cookie choices with "Cookies" at the bottom of every page, or in your browser settings (some features may stop working)

7. Children

Koail is not intended for children under 13, and they may not create an account. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted access and regular updates. No online service can be completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If the changes are significant we will tell you on the site or by email. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
